At Glance

Brief Introduction:

  • China Medical University (CMU) was established as China Medical College on June 6, 1958 and transformed itself into China Medical University in 2003. It is the first academic institution in Taiwan where Chinese medicine and pharmacy programs are provided. The university has steadily grown to its present position as one of the foremost medical universities in Taiwan. The university has two major campuses, Taichung (including Wuchuan and Ankang) and Beigang.
  • Located in the center of Taichung City, CMU includes 7 colleges where western medicine, Chinese medicine, pharmacy (including Chinese herbs), health care (including nursing), life sciences, management, and public health educational, research and practice programs are provided. Interdisciplinary courses are also available as the basis for students to integrate their learning experiences. With CMU’s top ranked laboratories, a library and reference center, two comprehensive teaching hospitals, and a strong staff commitment to students, our university provides a total approach to medical education in a caring, nurturing and well-equipped environment.

Faculty and Students There are currently a total of seven colleges at CMU. It has now become one of the best medical universities in Taiwan, with nearly 8000 students and 1056 teachers and staff members.

Hospitals: The largest single provider of indigenous health care in the Central Taiwan, the medical center is the site for region’s high quality Trauma Center and is recognized internationally for care in Chinese medicine, cancer treatment, stroke center, prevention medicine and center for neuropsychiatry. As part of the CMU Medical Center, the CMU College of Medicine and CMU Hospital system provide innovative care to patients from across Taichung and beyond.

Recreational Facilities: Studying is important but regular exercise is also essential. Many students of China Medical University are active participants in numerous sport competitions at university level in Taiwan. The China Medical University sport representative teams compete in the following sports: basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, golf, table tennis, swimming, tennis, and badminton. The sporting facilities of China Medical University include volley ball courts, basketball courts, table tennis court, golf court, dance studio classroom, and cardiovascular & weight-lifting room.

The China Medical University College of Medicine has a long tradition of excellence in a highly collaborative atmosphere within the School, the Healthcare System, across the grounds, throughout the Country and beyond. We at the CMU College of Medicine are serving as a quality standard for excellence through the education, innovation and collaboration. Instead of focusing on large classroom lectures, our curriculum emphasizes small-group learning and greater interaction among students and faculty in medicine through the Problem Based learning (PBL) courses to promote the ability of critical thinking, self-directed and lifelong learning techniques for our medical students.

For students passionate about science, our MS/PhD program prepares them for careers as investigators and teachers in biomedical research. China Medical University is one of top medical research institutions in Taiwan. Outstanding programs in basic and clinical medicine, systemic medicine, immunology and oncology make CMU College of Medicine one of diverse research center.
