GRODNO STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

• Founded: Established in 1958.
• Faculty: For many years the Faculty of General Medicine was the only faculty of the university and trained physicians of almost all medical specialties. The number of first graduates amounted to 248. At present, 500-600 young specialists graduate from the Faculty every year. Special emphasis is given to the training of specialists providing medical and prophylactic care in the sphere of diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of adult population.
• Students: At present 531 international students from 30 countries of the world study at the university.
• Library Collection: Grodno State Medical University has one of the biggest medical libraries in the country. It includes over 420000 copies of textbooks as well as various supplementary materials, CDs, medical journals, periodicals.

The library is connected to the Internet and offers on-line access to the biomedical database, digital catalogues, and also uses up-to-date informational technologies that allow diversifying render services.

• Faculties, Departments and Institutes: The University has 5 faculties. The University offers five undergraduate majors, 33 majors for clinical residents, 20 majors for Ph.D. students. First master’s degree holders have been qualified.
• Hospitals: The University works with joint collaboration with 7 Government Hospitals and Clinical centers of the city. All the hospitals are well-equipped with all necessary facilities for students to obtain practical knowledge.
• Sport Facilities: The University pays much attention to students’ sports activities. It is organized at the Department of Physical Training and Sport. The sport club “Medic” coordinates all the sports activities of the University.

The University has good sports facilities: two large gyms, wrestling training room, running track.

The main sports activities are volleyball, basketball, football, mini-football, athletics, draughts, chess, swimming, eurhythmics, judo, badminton, table tennis, arm wrestling, power lifting, kettle bell lifting, and bodybuilding.

• Hostels: There are 4 student hostels next to the main building of the university. They can accommodate 1840 students. Two of the buildings are of flat type i.e. with attached restroom (bathroom and toilet) and a kitchen. The hostels are centrally heated (air-conditioned). Student hostels are fully furnished. Normally two or three students share one room. There are separate arrangements for both boys and girls.
• MESS: Indian mess available on campus.
