Rector’s Message
- Kazan University is one of the oldest educational institutions in Russia, which in 2019 will be 215 years old. We have always occupied leading positions in the domestic and international scientific and educational space. Outstanding scientists, students and graduates brought the university world fame, and university culture had a beneficial effect on the development of Kazan, Tatarstan and Russia. In modern conditions, it is of particular importance for the university to acquire its federal status and implement the KFU development program for September 13, 2010 approved on September 13, 2010 by the Government of the Russian Federation. During the validity of this basic document, about 450 educational and scientific laboratories equipped with the latest instrumentation base were commissioned, new scientific and educational units were created, and large-scale work was launched to implement priority scientific directions.
All this allowed the KFU in 2013, following the results of an open competition, to become one of the leading universities of Russia – participants of the “5-100” program, which is designed to bring to life the directive set by V.V. Putin’s task of May 7, 2012 is the task of ensuring that by 2020 at least five Russian universities enter the first hundred of the world’s leading universities.
The formulated priorities gave us a clear vision of a strategy that incorporated not only scientific research, but also the development of new educational programs in these areas.
I note that all our priority areas are pronounced transdisciplinary, since they include many subject areas. According to the same principle, projects of scientific breakthroughs are formed, which, from our point of view, should not only meet global challenges, but also solve problems of practical importance for the region and the country.
Translation of scientific achievements occurs through our own sites – pilot production. They are created for each of the priority areas. Of particular note is the University Hospital, which became part of the KFU since January 1, 2016. It not only trains future doctors, but also introduces the latest methods of treatment, and also conducts clinical trials of their own and new foreign drugs. Educational technologies are the first to be mastered and implemented in the lyceums of Kazan University, which are among the hundred best schools in Russia. Space technologies are reflected in the project of an unmanned KAMAZ, created in close cooperation with the auto giant. New technologies for the extraction and processing of high-viscosity oil offered by KFU are already being introduced into the practice of the leading oil-producing and oil-refining companies in the region and the country,
All our priority areas and focus points for scientific breakthroughs were not chosen by chance. First of all, they provide an answer to the various challenges that exist today in the world, in the country, in the region. In particular, in Tatarstan there is an unresolved problem related to the unrepresentation of the region, and above all its capital, in the global ratings on science and education. Kazan University is the only one in the republic that is addressing this problem and is constantly expanding its presence in global and international subject rankings, occupying decent positions: QS World – 439, QS BRICS – 59, THE BRICS & EER – 66, THE “Education” – 101-125 , THE “Medicine” – 501-600, US News & World Report by Subjects “Space Sciences” – 133.
This confirms the success of the university and aims to achieve the highest scientific results and the full internationalization of activities. At the same time, as a federal university, we are called upon to actively interact with the territories and provide mass training of personnel for various industries.
The KFU development course we took at the time to create a research infrastructure allows us to confidently move along the path of transformation from a classical educational institution to a new generation university, University 4.0, where entrepreneurial, innovative, scientific and educational areas united by information technology capabilities are prominently represented. And each employee and student has the opportunity to realize their potential in ambitious world-class projects.
